LET'S TALK: MENTAL HEALTH IN COLOR
Jan’s Haven International has partnered with B Film to produce audio-visual content integral to sustainably integrating its filmmaking initiative aimed at providing hands-on learning to underrepresented girls. Our inaugural project, "Let’s Talk: Mental Health in Color," hosted by Psychologist Dr. Jeffrey Gardere, addresses the pressing need for culturally competent mental health care in "Black and Brown" communities, where youths are increasingly affected by mental health challenges.
This documentary series delves into the unique unaddressed childhood disruptions impacting the mental well-being of children in “Black and Brown” communities, focusing on the enduring consequences of socio-political and economic disparities. By tackling these issues head-on, the series seeks to redefine mental health perceptions, reduce long-standing stigmas and judgments, and advocate for a direct confrontation with past and present systemic and social policies.
"Let’s Talk: Mental Health in Color" underscores the complexity of mental health issues and care, emphasizing the necessity for community-based solutions. It issues a global call to action, urging open conversations and strategic solutions that address the unique challenges in full color, recognizing that they are not simply black and white.
The documentary is now available on Amazon Prime and Tubi, marking a significant step towards fostering inclusivity in mental health discourse and promoting diversity and representation in the field.

The correlation between mental health outcomes and sustainability is increasingly recognized as crucial for understanding holistic well-being. Sustainable practices, including fostering a connection with nature, promoting community engagement, and ensuring equitable access to resources, have demonstrated positive impacts on mental health. Conversely, environmental degradation, social inequalities, and the looming threat of climate change can exacerbate stress, anxiety, and feelings of powerlessness. Individuals and communities affected by environmental and social injustices often bear a disproportionate burden of mental health challenges. Acknowledging and addressing these interconnected issues is vital for promoting both environmental sustainability and mental well-being. It underscores the importance of comprehensive approaches that prioritize the health of both the planet and its inhabitants.
